6.0x OSAS Memory and Processor Requirements for both Standard and Client/Server OSAS

Memory Requirements:

Memory requirements all depend on how many applications other than OSAS are going to be open at the same time, so these numbers below will cover most of the typical situations. OSAS uses up to 4 MB of the workstations memory.

Workstations:

Minimum

Recommended

Optimal

Win95/98

16 MB

32 MB

64 MB

WinNT 4.0

Win2000

256 MB

Servers:

WinNT 4.0

Win2000

Novell

UNIX/LINUX

Memory requirements for the server depends on what other services and processing are happening on the server as well as the number of users accessing the server. It is very difficult to determine what memory requirements are needed. These numbers are assuming you are not using any other services (i.e. email, internet, etc.) on this server. If you are running these services, you may have to increase the memory requirements.

Processor Requirements:

Processor speeds are difficult to determine because it depends on what else is being processed and loaded at the same time as OSAS is being used. The following are some suggestions:

Workstations:

Processor Speed

Win95/98

Pentium 100 or greater

WinNT 4.0

Pentium 100 or greater

Win2000

Pentium 300 or greater

Servers:

Processor Speed

WinNT 4.0
Novell
UNIX/LINUX

Pentium 200 or greater *

Win2000

Pentium 400 or greater *

* It is very difficult to recommend processor speeds for WindowsNT 4.0, Windows2000, Novell, and UNIX/LINUX servers because of the other processes that could be running on the server as well as the number of users that are accessing the server. But if you are only running OSAS 6.0x on that server the processor should be a Pentium 200 or greater (except Win2000 which will require Pentium 400 or greater).
